Get a Slimmer & Sharper Face

So this is a frequently asked question by some of you on how can I get a slimmer and sharper looking face, basically how to lose fat on your face. Well if you’ve watched my “Ask Joanna” videos, you will know that it is not really possible to lose weight from just one part of the body. When you lose weight, you loss all over the body, and this includes the face. Sometimes, puffier face can also be caused by bloatedness. So here are 5 simple tips for you to achieve a slimmer looking face, by making small changes in your diet and lifestyle.

1) Reduce Your Salt and Sugar Intake

At times, weight gain in the face is the result of water retention, rather than body fat. Consuming too much of refined sugar and salt can contribute to water retention, and can make your face look fatter.

The easiest way to prove this is if you were to have french fries, fast food or high sugar chocolate bars late night before going to bed, chances are when you wake up the next morning, you’ll notice that your face is puffier than usual and you will feel bloated too.

So by reducing salt and refined sugars from your diet, not only will you lose fat from your face, you’ll also lose fat overall. Aim to consume lots of vegetables and eat real food as part of a healthy diet.

2) Drink plenty of water

If you're not drinking enough water, your body is more likely to retain water. Reason being is your body thinks that there isn't enough water, so it desperately stores excess water to keep your body from dehydration. And unfortunately, most of this retained water stays in your face, hence, making your cheeks and eyes look puffy and fat.
Personally, this happens to me a lot when I am travelling and struggle to keep myself hydrated as often I should be. So drink enough water so that all the body toxins are flushed out. When your body is not desperate to retain water, you will get a slimmer looking face and body as well. Remember to drink at least 2.5 – 3 litres of water per day.

3) Watch Your Weight

If you have a chubby face due to being overweight or obese, the easiest way to lose fat from your face is to lose fat overall. So change your lifestyle; start a workout plan and go on a healthy and well-balanced diet. Usually, excess body fat disappears first from the face. 4) Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol is another common culprit when it comes to facial and body weight gain. Drinking too much of alcohol leads to dehydration, which then causes water retention and puffiness in the face.

Alcohol contains mostly empty calories, and has no nutritional values. 1g of alcohol has 7 calories, which is second only after fat (1g = 9Cals). So for instance, drinking 2 pints of 5% strength beer at 170Calories (340Cals) per pint has more calories than a McD’s Cheese Burger (295Cals).

Most of the time, we tend to be more aware of what food we eat, however, we can be delusional on how much we drink. For instance, if you have been watching your diet and exercise regular, but still not losing the weight, it can be the alcohol consumption. Avoid or limit your alcohol intake for a slimmer face and body.

Of course, that does not mean you can’t have a good night out occasionally; 1 tip to pace and reduce your alcohol intake is to alternate the drinks with water. Water will help to keep you hydrated and to drink less.

5) Perform Facial Exercises

Try some simple jaw exercises. Profoundly pronounce the letters X-O a lot of times. Exaggerate and open your mouth as wide as you can for a few seconds and then relax it. Try to do it about 30 times a day, in 3 different sessions. This will help to work on the facial muscles. Alternatively, chew chewing-gums. It also works on the facial muscles, plus to stop you from munching away! Or if you want to pamper yourself, go for a face massage. Massage helps to increase the circulation of the tissues in your face, making it look slimmer and evenly toned.

If all these facial exercises are not possible, well the easiest and best way is to smile and laugh daily. Laughing engages more than your facial muscles, it involves your abs and of course your heart too. Find a reason to smile and laugh every day, for a slimmer, younger looking face and a joyful heart. The more positive energy you give out, the more good you will receive in return.
